Monthly Bookkeeping

Books that close on time, every month

Good bookkeeping is quiet and regular. Each month we record what happened, prove it against the bank, and hand you statements you can trust. No backlog, no guesswork, no surprises in April.

What's included

The full record, kept current

Monthly bookkeeping covers everything needed to keep your general ledger accurate and complete.

  • Transaction categorization. Every bank, credit card, and loan transaction is recorded and coded to the correct account. Unclear items go on a short question list, not into a suspense account that never gets cleaned.
  • Bank and credit card reconciliation. Each account is reconciled to the statement balance. Timing differences are documented. Anything that does not tie out is investigated until it does.
  • Accounts receivable and payable tracking. We keep aging reports current so you know who owes you, what you owe, and which items are past due.
  • Payroll and loan entries. Payroll runs, loan payments, and interest are booked so wages, liabilities, and principal balances are right on the balance sheet.
  • Monthly financial statements. You receive a profit and loss statement, a balance sheet, and a cash summary each month, with brief notes on anything unusual.
  • A documented file. Statements, reconciliations, and support are kept organized so your tax preparer, your lender, or an auditor can follow the trail without a scavenger hunt.
The monthly close

What happens after the month ends

The close follows the same sequence every month. That repetition is the point: it is how errors get caught early instead of compounding.

  1. Gather

Bank, credit card, and loan statements come in, along with any documents on our request list from the prior month. Most feeds arrive automatically; we chase the rest.

  2. Record and categorize

All activity for the month is entered and coded. Transfers between accounts are matched so nothing is double counted as income or expense.

  3. Reconcile

Every account is reconciled to its statement. Outstanding checks and deposits in transit are listed. If the ledger and the bank disagree, we find out why before moving on.

  4. Review and adjust

A second set of eyes reviews the draft statements. We look for duplicates, miscoded items, missing bills, and balances that moved in ways that do not make sense. Adjusting entries are booked with notes.

  5. Deliver and explain

Final statements go out with a short written summary: what changed from last month, what drove it, and any open questions we need you to answer.

Who it's for

A good fit for owners who want the books off their desk

Owners doing it themselves

You have been keeping the books at night and on weekends. The records are mostly right, but the work never ends and the statements are always late. We take it over and keep it current.

Businesses that fell behind

Months of unrecorded activity, unreconciled accounts, or a ledger no one trusts. We do the catch-up work first, then hold the monthly schedule so it does not happen again.

Growing companies

You have staff, inventory, or multiple accounts, and decisions now depend on accurate reports. You need statements that are ready when the bank, your partners, or your tax preparer asks.
